These pages are deeply personal and frankly sentimental. They tell of a mother-daughter relationship -- and a friendship, forged by hard times; severed, but not broken, by death. They speak a word of empathy to others who have lost the person whom they loved most, and stand as proof that somehow we go on.

Pam Robbins' book "Abiding Sorrow" is a powerful book: It is a sweet testimonial to the undying love between a mother and daughter; a vivid description of loss and grief; and an amazingly touching, well-written book. Although I was often in tears in reading about the author's loss, I also found myself laughing often, and throughout the reading, I was touched that someone could so eloquently express such deep feelings with just the written word. This book is fierce; it's a primal scream from the author's heart. But it will strike a chord of familiarity in anyone who has experienced the devastation that threatens to drown you when you lose someone you love. Therein lies the comfort.
