"My review" I’m going to attempt to review “High School Whore” by Parys Sylvery , even if I find the basic premise of a popular yet mean high school girl who wants to be Prom Queen a bit overdone and played out. From the start the author gives us readers a great physical description of the main character Summer, but then spends a whole paragraph giving her more after school activities then four students can handle let alone one. The story then folding into a random high school party where the reader is lead to believe that Summer has nothing else to do with her time but walk around being a “whore” and a “bitch” then the writer reduces every other girl in the scene even the plot device good girl Annie, whose introduced into the story by being on the giving end of some oral stimulation gone wrong. Summer of course sees all of this and has a great camera phone that records the event so that she may blackmail poor little Annie in the future. It’s obviously that the writer has... More > been watching to many horny teenage movies, because there’s little signs of actual teenage behavior in this story. Instead everything reads like a horny guy’s guide to his fictional high school life. So, don’t take this story too seriously, after all it’s called “High School Whore”. However, I do give the writer credit he knows how to write realistic dialogue and his characters even thought they behave like left over extras from reruns of 90210, sound like real people. Stupid real people who use the word “bitch” and “whore” more then any the kids on “South Park.” And, it’s that inability to craft realistic people with a ounce of intelligence and non-generic character behaviors that hurt this story the most. Summer and her siblings and friends all come across as too cookie cutter and none of them stand out as likable characters who the reader can relate to, love to hate, or sympathize with, so “American Pie” the novel, this book is not. That’s a sad truth especially considering that it’s apparent that the writer can write well and structure a story r and write dialogue in a manner that reads like actual conversations (and if at times it’s overtly reduced to name calling) and not just long winded rants filled with big non-conversational words. Read this book, only if you have nothing to do for an hour or so and want to read something with no-substance and a few laughs.< Less
