About Gene Mitchell

Pastor Gene Mitchell was born in Griffin, Georgia, to Nellie and J.P Walker, Sr. Pastor G. as she is fondly known, has two sisters and a brother. She was married to Pastor Melvin U. Mitchell and has a daughter and two adult grandchildren. When her husband passed in 2008, she was invited by their congregation to become the new pastor. She accepted. She is a product of the Atlanta public school system. She attended Beulah Heights Bible College in Atlanta and Charles H. Mason Bible College. Saved in 1976, she became a licensed evangelist in the Church of God in Christ in 1989. She also served as District Missionary under two superintendents. In 2009, she became State Supervisor of Women for Nigeria in West Africa, resign-ing in 2013 to give herself fully to her pastorate. She has taught evangelism classes for all the state evangelist. And, of course, she is beloved full time pastor at One Step of Faith COGIC. Pastor G enjoys good music, art and crafts, sewing and travel.
