Sunderland AFC Stories - Part 1 - Corinthian Spirit
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Sunderland AFC Stories is a series of books that takes a nostalgic look back at the rich and varied history of one of England's best loved football clubs.
From its formation in 1879 the players, matches and incidents have shaped the football club from a burgeoning organisation into a footballing institution.
In Part 1 - Corinthian Spirit, Sunderland AFC Stories recounts the tale of The Hemy Painting and its long journey from a furniture warehouse to a pub and onto its current home. Hemy himself is revealed and the oldest painting of an association football match anywhere in the world, finally has its total tale told! A game against Casuals in 1889 at Kennington Oval is revealed as well as rare postcards, images and newspaper articles from the late 19th century and early 20th century.
Blackburn Rovers 1900 at Roker Park reveals the earliest image, still in circulation, of SAFC at its home for 99 years. This and much more gets Sunderland AFC Stories off to a marvellous start as work starts on Part 2.
