In 2024, the world is on the brink of nuclear war and environmental disaster. Nora Del Bosque tells her husband, Aden Delaterre, she must go to Chicago, to the new headquarters of the UN, to report on a crucial meeting. With the world situation looking grim, Aden fears for Nora’s safety. As an environmental specialist, he understands the danger all too well. His fears are confirmed when global disaster strikes during Nora’s trip, and the two are lost to each other. In the ensuing years, they each lead lives in isolated communities without modern technology or the conveniences once taken for granted. Both become leaders within these fragments of civilization, facing a wide range of conflicts. In the process, Nora and Aden discover their own intuitive awakening and come to know and rely on their personal spirit guides—in hopes of one day finding each other. In this tale of romance, political intrigue, and mysticism, humanity faces a post-apocalyptic crisis of... More > devastating proportions.< Less

Aug 23, 2015In this near-future, post-apocalyptic page-turner, Paul M. Lewis has created a world filled with scenarios that embody our worst ecological, political, and sectarian fears. The main characters, Nora and Aden, provide the strong, believable, and constructive responses that provide hope for the survival of humans after the devastation. This book’s thought-provoking plots and elegant descriptions will engage and entertain all readers. I have recommended it to my book club and look forward to leading a discussion of it this fall.
May 16, 2015Paul M. Lewis gave me the opportunity to read one of the first drafts of his thrilling and enlightening novel "After the Devastation," while it was still in progress. I can't wait to read the final published book and revisit the vividly drawn personalities, places and situations that Lewis describes so unforgettably in his novel. This is a real thriller of an adventure story in which some of our worst fears for the planet are woven into an intricately poetic tapestry of disaster and action, conflict and intrigue, hatred and love, and despair and courage. For those of us who live with real concern that such a devastating denouement may be all to close at hand for the Earth, this novel offers a new way to look at our apocalyptic fears -- it provides a practical, spiritual, mysterious and mystical framework within which we can build our own strength of character for facing overwhelming challenges, and it introduces us to living and breathing role models who show us the way to... More > confronting seemingly insurmountable adversity. Beyond the story, the suspenseful action and the characters, this book is a literary delight. Paul M. Lewis is a master of clarity, poetic expression and unforgettable descriptive prose. His depictions of places and events are cinematic, and his portraits of the many compelling characters are so alive, we feel we have met and known them well, after only a few paragraphs. I recommend "After the Devastation" unreservedly as an excellent, enlightening and inspiring experience that will engross and challenge the reader.< Less
