Paul Pavao spins a gripping tale of the intrigue, violence, and political maneuvering that surrounded the most important theological controversy in the history of Christianity.
The story of the Council of Nicea and the Arian Controversy is riveting, and here it is told in glorious detail. As a bonus, _In the Beginning Was the Logos_ includes a thorough survey of the controversy from the writings of Christians *before* the council.
Appendices include most of the important source documents rendered in modern English.

Passionately and honestly written, it is hard to put down. If you have only one book to help understand the Bible and the church, this should be it. Paul's research was not done overnight, but has been a lifestyle since long before I met him, in the mid-to-late 90's. I have known Paul personally, now, for well over a decade, and have been reading his writings for years. I am almost through the book. The reason the book is so excellent, interesting and informative is that he has a passion for truth and finding out what God really wants for people. He demands excellence from himself, whether as a church leader, family man, or disciple, and actually wants to help us all be as passionate and informed as he is. He is not only an excellent author, but a really good man and disciple, who has spent decades passionately learning what the truth about following Christ really is (and is not) through the eyes of the earliest followers, and adjusting his life to please God, as he learned. If you... More > want to clearly know what it means to follow Christ, read everything he writes (www.christian-history.org) and follow his advice and example.< Less
