The concept is clever and I was really looking forward to reading Eyes without a Face, however the novel itself is very poorly written. The grammar and punctuation are atrocious, the author constantly uses incorrect words, e.g. an auctioneer uses a gavel, not a gable; he uses the verbs emphasise, emulate and emanate in totally inappropriate context; he confuses ridged and rigid, and doesn't know the difference between "lent" (past participle of the verb to lend) and leant (past participle of the verb to lean). Much of the dialogue is puerile (the constant references to the pronunciation of Senga Munreaux and the antique ivory Toucan hair grip become boring after the first three times) and insults the intelligence of the reader. In the first few pages Eton College is written as "Eaton" - a glaring error. One of the characters is said to have received a degree from Eton - not possible, as Eton is not a university, but a college for 13 to 18 year olds. I could go on,... More > but the errors would make a book in themselves. Please, Mr Taylor, if you are going to write a book, at least get it proof-read and copy-edited by someone who is proficient in the English language.< Less
