"The Gates of Heaven" You need a box of hankies when you read this book. It truly captures the extraordinary way that even the most unlikely people can show great heroism, love and compassion when they face danger and all values are questionned. Here is romance, loss and reconciliation in a masterly and sweeping story that I could not put down. There must be a sequel.

"The Gates of Heaven" I loved this book, it was a roller coaster of emotion. At times it breaks your heart, but masterfully Penelope Squibb weaves in deft comic touches that balances the extraordinary plight of the men and women in her novel. The historical details are spot on and she paints a vivid picture of how it was during this tumultuous time in our history. Honestly, I didn't want the book to end!
