The Problem with Management - And how to Solve It, is a collection of stories about workforce Engagement. What is Engagement, the effect it has, stories of what happens and how much it is worth when the workforce are allowed to Engage, what managers do that prevent Engagement from happening, what happened to allow different workforces to Engage, what it meant to them and what it meant to the organisations they were a part of. Subtitled "The Engagement Handbook" because without any agenda or vested interest the readers can discover for themselves, through these stories, almost any aspect of Engagement, what the benefits are and how to get them, what happens when we don't allow the workforce to Engage and the consequences of disengagement. Members of the workforce will recognise in "Engagement" a description of an ideal world that they never thought they would experience at work. Managers will recognise what to do to create that environment for their workforce, and... More > why they should do it.< Less

This book is a timely wake-up call for every manager. It catalogs the bad behaviors one finds amongst people in authority in any organisation, whether public or private sector. These faults are not new or obscure. Everyone of us has been exposed to them sometime in our careers and we’ve seen the debilitating effects they can have on morale, productivity and performance. It is time to realize that Peter Hunter’s key staff management skills are essential to organizational success – ‘The Trouble With Management’ makes this abundantly clear. I have always been dubious about the outcomes of the old expression: ‘what gets measured get’s done’ because in my heart of heart I know, when the work-force really ‘cares’ about something, it really does get done!
