"The Bible from Cover to Cover by Peter Brancazio" This book was a real eye-opener for me, and I'm the recovered product of 12 years of Catholic education and more time spent reading Bible passages than you can shake the proverbial (ahem) stick at. Not only does it provide a guided tour of the Old and New Testaments, but it does so with the kind of critical eye that is seldom applied to this influential set of books and writings. Many embrace the Bible as revealed "truth of God," and there is no shortage of writings to back up that point of view. But those with an interest in what is really written in the Bible in all its inconsistent and sometimes inexplicable glory would be hard pressed to find a more readable historical-critical look at the subject that does not require the reader to have the expertise of a Biblical scholar.
