Cars, Paul and Me
eBook (PDF), 83 Pages
Pete Bullock has been the recipient of some very unfortunate luck with his cars. Many people have experienced chipped windscreens and flat tyres and will sympathise with him. However, how many people can claim to have had the bonnet stolen from their car, have a lorry push them out of their lane on the motorway and have to be cut out of their car through no fault of their own? In this book Pete recollects and acknowledges the humorous side of his car nightmares, as did his best friend Paul, who he met at the age of three. Pete reminisces at his and Paul’s life growing up together and of the car stories that always made Paul laugh. The problems with the cars were put into context however when Paul, a seemingly fit and healthy 27 year old, passed away only 15 days after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010. The proceeds that Pete gets from the book sales will go to Pancreatic Cancer UK, an organisation dedicated to research and helping those diagnosed with this disease.

Feb 8, 2011Fantastically written and very humorous read. All for a very good cause. I had heard a few of the stories mentioned but even a few surprised me! There is something about it that just makes you smile. A very good tribute to Petes best mate who would have loved laughing at the bad luck stories that im sure we can all relate to. Very much recommended. BUY IT!
Jan 31, 2011Being the blunt Yorkshire girl that I am, I have to be honest … I bought this book because my friend had written it and I was so very proud of him, and I wanted to support a worthwhile cause (let's face it, being a girl I cant really get involved in Movember can I?) I read this book because I’d paid for it and didn’t just want it to just sit on my shelf gathering dust. Plus, if Pete was going to turn out to be the next Danny Wallace, then I wanted to be one of those annoying people who can say ‘I was there when it all began …’ I loved this book … not because my pork pie loving friend is the author, not because one of my best friends is mentioned frequently, (which, I’m sure, by association makes me immortalised in print also) … but because it’s brilliant. The key message of the book – ie paying tribute to the tragic loss of Pete’s good friend Paul – means the book has the potential to be morbid and of no relevance to someone who has never met the author or the recipient of the... More > tribute. However, it’s written in such a personable way that you feel like Pete is sat next to you relaying the stories over a couple of hobnobs and a brew. You actually look forward to finding out what the next bit of car-related bad luck is going to befall Pete next. Pete has done a good job of being laugh out loud funny and tear-provoking in the same book, which is a feat some well established authors still struggle with. I definitely recommend that you buy, read, and love this book … just as I did.< Less
