You like Scotland? You'll like this book. You like Manhattan? You'll like this book. You like helicopters and junkies and strippers and waitresses? Same thing. The background: an explosion at a pre-Civil War dyeing plant in the South has killed Black workers who, in 1989, still live and labour the way slaves did, pre-1865. A lawsuit has resulted, and fish-out-of-water Scottish attorney Sean P. Shalloon has choppered into New York to take the Deposition of one of the bankers behind the debacle.Except his mind is not on the job. He keeps thinking about last night's waitress who uncannily resembled Debbie Harry of the pop group Blondie. Suddenly the legal proceedings are dramatically interrupted. Sean finds himself in the company of Ditsy, an ex-junkie, ex-stripper whose story makes Sean question everything.
