In 1949 following an attack on Israel by the EAF Spitfires the Israeli's decided they themselves needed some better airplanes to defend themselves and purchased around 300 Spitfires and DH Mosquito fighter-bombers and a few Czech Avia-built spitfires. Subsequently the Israeli Government who were wanting to establish an indigenous aircraft industry unbeknown to the IDF/AF struck a deal with Burma to sale them some 'surplus' Spitfires along with a deal to deliver and maintian and service them, but this was easier said than done with the Burmese insisting that the airplanes be flown to Israel by Burmese personnel and they would be sending pilots to Israel for training and the sage continued for many months...
