Japanese Fighter 'aces' of the Pacific War

ByPeter Dancey

Fighter pilots in the Japanese army and naval air forces were (as today in most air forces) an elite' of very high academic and physical standards. Pre-WW II they had fought against the Soviet and Chinese and the naval flyers had honed their skills flying the Claude Type 96 off Japanese carriers. But it was the Mitsubishi 'Zeke' (Zero) that produced most of the 'aces' although unlike their Allied counterparts the successful Japanese fighter pilot was not about 'acedom' the Japanese stressed 'teamwork' and the High Command forbade the the practice of recording individual victories or 'kills' So this book tells the virtually unknown story of the JNAF and JAAF WW II 'aces'
