Having absolutely no education in architecture, I found this book surprisingly approachable. The authors kept analysis of current local architecture to a minimum, instead selecting and describing specific problems and offering modern solutions. (Note: I don't know if 'modern' has architectural implications, so excuse the potentially incorrect usage) Projects tend to involve the community in two ways. The first attempts to make projects accessible, positive parts of the neighborhood. The second attempts to make the neighborhood surrounding a project more open and useful to the community. I was especially surprised how smoothly the projects opened up the area around the Lower 9th ward bridge. Overall this is a great look at the work and style of some rising architects, and the connection between city planning and architecture has never been more apparent!
