Return to Rabaul tells the epic story of Australians in World War I. The story unfolds through the wartime experiences of a young soldier, Francis Milne, and a cast of characters – soldiers and officers, politicians, nurses, internees and rebels. His journey takes him from the steamy jungles of New Guinea, to the hills above Gallipoli, the subterranean world of radical politics in 1916 Sydney, the trenches and hospitals of northern France, and back to New Guinea after the war, where he reunites with his one true love.
