‘FLUMMADIDDLE’ according to the Oxford English Dictionary is defined as: 1. A dish made with stale bread, pork fat, molasses and spices. 2. Nonsense, humbug, something trivial or ridiculous. It is a whimsical tale of life in a rural Village and is dedicated to the good people of the Dales of North Yorkshire, amongst whom I lived happily for ten years.

"Richly humorous" I found myself repeatedly laughing out loud as I read this wonderfully whimsical and richly humorous saga. Flummadiddle is a little jewel of a book, and an authentic mini-classic, that deserves to take its place alongside Last of the Summer Wine, The Vicar of Dibley, Heartbeat and the short stories of James Herriot, all of which are similar exponents of the essential quirkiness and eccentricity of the British character. The Author is to be congratulated on his remarkable achievement in publishing, at the age of 91, a first work of fiction that is utterly beguiling, deeply absorbing, and superbly inventive.
