Corridor Dance held my interest right through to its spectacular ending. It's very mysterious. I felt I was right there in northern England living as a student in the Sixties. The description of the strange figures among the trees on the river bank sent a chill down my spine. I wouldn't want to categorize this book - it's too original for that but it is beautiful. I know I shall read it again and again.

I was given this book as a birthday present and it really was an excellent read! I know Durham City well and 'Corridor Dance' evokes the atmosphere of the university and the city beautifully. This is a very mysterious and lyrical book. Yes, it's a prose-poem alright: half-way between prose and poetry. Throughout, the central character - Simon - becomes more and more involved in a shadowy organisation which becomes wider and deeper in scope until Simon seems to drift upwards in a world of his own imagining. A very well paced book - the plot takes place in a single day - and the conclusion in the cathedral is magical!
