The Queen is Coming! I know very little about Renaissance period and even less about Renaissance English. This book was very informative in teaching me the finer points of proper Elizabethan English. Specifically, when it came to proper pronunciation, intonation and the difference in words spoken today versus the 15th & 16th centuries. Moreover, the author has done a great job of presenting the background history of how and why the Renaissance Faire came to be as well as linking the Elizabethan way of speaking in the 15th century to the way we speak today. The book delves into how to address others in conversation (as well as how not to), proper greetings ("Well met!" being my favorite due to its informal nature), and good and bad forms of Elizabethan speech. Not to mention there is so much more packed into the this short yet awarding read. As an English instructor for grade 6 & 7, I intend to use parts of this book in my class for introducing old English (or... More > Elizabethan English), because the book does such a great job discussing the nuances of Elizabethan English and shows students an elegant way of expressing thoughts and also includes a generous vocabulary/dictionary section which I know some of my more creative students will latch onto. Instead of calling a group member who is not contributing lazy they can call them a bed-presser< Less
