Entrepreneurs always seem hungry for success, don’t they? But what if many, were also just hungry, literally, as they struggle in their quest for success?
Philippe Joly shares his true, entertaining, and funny stories and anecdotes, to show a controversial reality behind many Start-Ups, and takes the reader on a guided-tour backstage to see what is really going on.
POTEMKIN, Inc. is a personal visit behind the scenes, which provides a fascinating insight into the Samson and Goliath battles that many one-man bands, and small businesses, fight and win, every day, by inventing their own rules, and finding creative ways in order to seize opportunities.
An eye-opening first book that offers every small business owner some serious food for thought, and a must-read for anyone embarking on the rollercoaster ride of starting a business.
Forget about what you learned in business school and discover that the only 80/20 rule that matters is the 20 you show and the 80 you don't.
The short stories and anecdotes kept me entertained as they took me from Moscow to Paris, passing by Dublin, Milan, Almaty, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Hong Kong. An interesting look at what's going on behind the scenes of one-man bands and small businesses, with a very positive approach to the typically more negative usage of the Potemkin villages. A clear line is drawn between con artists and thieves on one side and Potemkin, Inc. entrepreneurs on the other. Original concept and nicely introduced. Not the usual business book!
An enjoyable and entertaining read! Initially the cover grabs the imagination and what to expect from the book is not immediate. Is it a business book? a book on making your start-up successful? a biography? a book on Russia? In fact, it is a business book, but a very unusual business book. Very real and personal, often funny and always interesting. The message gets nicely and quickly introduced and as you follow the journey of the author from one true story to another, the message becomes even clearer.
Interesting, funny and original approach to modern entrepreneurship. A very entertaining read and a must-have on the book shelf of anyone thinking about starting a business. The true short stories and anecdotes are unusual and keep the reader entertained until the end. I especially liked the author's personal touch and wink at Steve Jobs' contribution to his entrepreneurial "parcours". A very promising debut book!
