A beautiful book of contemplative, Christian poetry dedicated to "Blessed John Paul II", now St. John Paul II. Catholics, traditional Christians, and anyone who likes good poetry will enjoy the book. My favorite rhyme comes from the poem "Enemy Parade" by Jean Hubert and is about Jesus: "the running blood of Thee Who was killed at thirty-three". (P. 59) My favorite poem is "Prayer of the Unborn" by Bard the Anonymous on pages 77 and 78. After the Introduction of the book there are three pages entitled "Karol Wojtyla: Art and Contemplation", by Sarah Fordham. This section is largely about the poetry and plays of Pope St. John Paul II before he became pope but ends with a quote from his "Letter to Artists" released during his papacy: "It is up to you, men and women who have given your lives to art, to declare with all the wealth of your ingenuity that in Christ the world is redeemed: the human person is redeemed, the human... More > body is redeemed, and the whole creation which, according to Saint Paul, 'awaits impatiently the revelation of the children of God' (Romans 8 v. 19), is redeemed. The creation awaits the revelation of the children of God also through art and in art. This is your task. Humanity in every age, and even today, looks to works of art to shed light upon its path and its destiny." (P. 15)< Less
