Dr. James Crawford, professor of Religious Studies,is faced with overwhelming evidence that he murdered a beautiful young Russian exchange student and must prove his innocence, rescue his girlfriend from becoming the next Bride of Satan and do so one step in front of a determined and highly motivated homicide detective.
Detective Charles Papenfus, a recent transplant from the Minneapolis police department, finds himself in extremely treacherous, and ultimately lethal, surroundings as he attempts to solve the Russian woman's murder which takes him, Professor Crawford, the professor's girlfriend Jacqueline Peale and the reader spiraling, Dante-like, into the mysterious world of the black arts hidden deep beneath the cover of the Texas intelligentsia.
Marked by a number of tension builders, the story reaches its climax as Professor Crawford discovers the real murderer and removes the veil of secrecy, exposing to light the hub of occult activity in the postal code 78666.
