I've tried quite a few method books, the usual suspects, you know who they are. What I don't like about the usual methods is the "trying to be all things to everyone" approach. Mixing classical with folk and popular music. Fundamental Keys uses a straight classical approach which works better. There are also low cost optional videos available on the authors website. Recommended.

I am delighted with Fundamental Keys after trying a couple of other methods. I tried a "play quick" method I learned about online that said it taught you pop songs quickly. I soon thought I was chugging away but getting no foundation. I tried a popular method book, which was better, but it taught you old folk songs (and not very good ones) and children's tunes. Childhood is a distant memory for me, and it was pretty boring. Then I heard about Fundamental Keys. I checked out Ms. Jimenez' web site and her videos show a very accomplished pianist. The introductory video for her course sealed it. I ordered the book, and purchased downloads for the first few videos. So far, even though I'm in the beginning stages, it's a great system and I'm excited to progress and learn genuine classical music, basic as it is to start. I do plan on getting a teacher in the future, but for now this system is giving me an excellent base of knowledge. Highly recommended, especially for the adult... More > beginner.< Less

I started playing drums when I was in grade school so I was used to songs like Hot Cross buns and other classical young songs good for people starting out. However After years of hearing Hot Cross Buns I really loathed to revisit it. This book present the information in an easy to way system for beginners where you can read it and learn by playing along. There is no jumps in concepts where the book expects you to have a teacher alongside explaining it. This makes it ideal to me as I am trying to teach myself. Also the music is new songs I never heard before so I am always excited when I get to a new piece. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to learn piano. In addition the author has a wonderful site full of resources including videos to go along with the book which is quite helpful if you get stuck and need to watch someone else do it.

Recently, I had a chance to look through this piano method book. I am amazed to find how ingenious the method is. This book is a perfect representation of the smartest way to approach the difficult task of learning piano playing. I find this book comprehensive yet very easy to follow. Personally, I've looked through many method books in the past, but I think this is by far the most organized and logical(yet intuitive) piano method book. I wish this book was available when my child was learning piano.

I have searched all over creation for a book that was simple enough for me to understand. I will be 78 in a few weeks and the old brain doesn't work the same as it used to. I find the book simple to read and comprehend. I know it might be a little late for me to learn classical piano but you never know... plus I'm having a blast. I had a small problem trying to download some of Rachel's new DVD's(my fault) and it was solved very quickly. She really cares. I am usually very impatient but this book makes you take your time. Highly recommended. Jim Moore Glenville, NY
