As the title suggests, Our Town is the play about a small American town. It is a three act play written by Thornton Wilder. The story of the play is based on every day activities of the people living in the early twentieth century town in America. The playwright has made a very good use of metatheatrical devices. Thornton Wilder has set the play in a 1930s theatre controlled by the Stage Manager on stage. The actions of the Stage Manager are used to create the town of Grover’s Corner for the audiences present in the theatre to view the play. The scenes of the town’s history from the year 1901 to 1913 are shown to the audiences with the directions and actions given by the Stage Manager.
