“The Big Sleep” by Raymond Chandler is a crime novel. It was published in 1939. This was the first novel which presented detective Philip Marlowe. Two movies have already made on this novel, the first was made in 1946 and the second in 1978. The story of the novel is set in Los Angeles, California. It is a very complex story, with various characters who continue to double cross one another. Throughout the narrative, various secrets continue to be revealed. The title “The Big Sleep” is a euphemism of death. It evidently refers to rumination in the book about “sleeping the big sleep.” Ready Reference Treatise: The Big Sleep Copyright Chapter One: Introduction Chapter Two: Background Chapter Three: Plot Summary Chapter Four: Characters Chapter Five: Complete Summary Chapter Six: Critical Analysis
