As a fashion historian, I loved discovering more about the full and rich life and fashion design career of Lucy, Lady Duff Gordon. I had already learned a lot about her, especially in my research for a Titanic fashion presentation I was giving at the Biltmore in Asheville, NC, during their costume exhibition a few years ago. (She and her husband survived the disaster.) But it was not until Randy Bryan Bigham’s book, "Lucile – Her Life By Design," that I was able to immerse myself in the “real” story of her life and understand its historical context. Through her design techniques for gowns and lingerie, her business and promotional savvy, Lucile truly understood the heart and soul of a woman! Bigham’s passion for Lady Duff Gordon’s innovative designs—and life!—inspired me to write an article (which included stories of several women survivors of the Titanic), but featured this enormously talented and trailblazing woman!... More > An entertaining read—with wonderful images, Bigham’s biography assists in giving Lucile/Lady Duff Gordon her “fashionable” due at long last!< Less
