A peasant boy in ancient Egypt discovers an ancient-ancient (there were ancients in his day, too) method to make artificial stone. He is told that the gods would become angry if mere mortals were to have the ability to make stone. He builds massive pyramids, employing that knowledge to excite the gods. Ultimately, the Old Kingdom suffers a total collapse, and the pyramid-building era comes to an end. The ancient-ancients were right after all.
