review by STEVE Shifaw In all of her recent books, “Fever”, “Belated Love Letters” and “The One who Makes me Forget,” Regine Dubono’s voice resounds with strength and compassion enticing the reader to join forces with the Patient Safety Movement, or to follow the commandments of Stephen Covey's the “Eighth Habit.” (empower others to be free, the principle South africa Legendary President Nelson Mandela practiced all his life and which made him a "giant of History" (quoting President Obama upon Mandela's death and eulogy, Dec 5) Under the simple form of a humble diary, Regine Dubono’s observations dig deep into the need for drastic social change. She points out what needs to be changed for the nation that was born to be free, to remain true to its purpose and ideals. For so long America did embody the spirit of Liberty to the world, a nation of emigrants, of pioneers, of supermen and Superwomen who built impressive systems and infrastructures, out of the untamed land. Can one... More > witness the erosion of the very fabric of Freedom and remain silent? She senses and diagnoses the apathy of the health care workers and their quiet despair as symptoms of the strength of their shackles. In no part of the world is any corporation worker free today. They all work under 24/7 cameras watching them only to make sure they are following directions. We and others have been reduced to become a nation of sheep. There is no room for creativity, or helping a patient outside the box. These workers are shackled by their financial obligations, and driven by fear of homelessness, they are buried alive within their assignments. And it is fear, rather than the passion to heal and the ethics that accompany that passion that sadly rules their lives. Regine Dubono’s books are a call to peaceful action to undo the harm done by re-empowering America’s workers, awakening their talents and encouraging the deployment of these gifts to enhance American life, American Health, and American power and preferred positioning in the world. Worth reading and pounding about. A book you cannot forget. A book you come back to again and again, for it is laden with a treasure of observations.< Less
