    In this amazing new book by fantasy and science fiction author Rhys-Michael Silverlocke, the limits of your imagination will be surpassed. His style, which seems at times to be influenced by Stephen R. Donaldson and Robert Heinlein, is nevertheless fresh and daring as he sings out in this unique narrative voice. In "Hard Dull", the author takes his hero past the limits of sanity, human endurance and even simple pity. You can almost feel it yourself as the hero is tortured beyond imagination, in unknown lands people by beings and creatures which defy traditional fantasy and offer realistic voices. This book seems to be almost an homage to Jonathan Swift and Herman Melville. There are elements of the hard life at sea, contrasted by realms of characters so strange... and yet instantly identifiable as illustrations and indictments of our often bizarre society and culture. Personally I think it takes a lot of nerve to try and blend those elements and styles, or to attempt a... More > "Gulliver" for the new millenium. But the author carries it off flawlessly and seamlessly. I’m really quite impressed. An amazing effort here, and well worth a read or three.< Less
