This is such a refreshing book. It presents all the arguments against belief WITH data to back them up. Really gave me ammunition to talk with my super religious brother and his wife. Plus, it is easy to read and thoroughly entertaining. I highly recommend it.

The Book I Wish I'd Had as a Confused Young Teen..... The Beginner's Guide to Blasphemy puts at the fingertips of readers statistics, meticulous documentation. logic and humor that would be most helpful to someone questioning that which "everybody knows" about the effects of religion on individuals and society. This brief, breezy text managers to cover many key areas, including the lack of Biblical knowledge among professed believers, the muddle that is the Jesus story and its incompatibility with known history of the period, the correlation of high numbers of believers with high rates of violent crime/high rates of unbelievers with low rates of violent crime, and the almost comical intensity of Biblical rules' focus on sex. Also useful and entertaining are the quotes from respected Americans questioning religion and its usefulness. The Beginner's Guide to Blasphemy is both informative and entertaining. Every friend who has noticed me reading it has asked to borrow the book.
