Before the night sky was obscured by street lights, security lights, and illuminated skyscapers, man looked to the heavens and found mystery and beauty there. He watched as the stars marched across the night sky in fixed arrangements, and as the moon waxed and waned in the rhythm of life. But it's not like that anymore. Our society has lost touch with the night. Slowly, the pollution of light creeps outward from the cities, making even the dark nights of the country not so dark as they used to be. The stars rise in a dome of light in the east, and set in a dome of light in the west. In places, the stars are nowhere to be seen at all. Little Piney Observatory was established in 2013 to honor the night sky and the beauty that is found there. This calendar of 12 images is just a small sampling of targets in our galaxy and even some beyond, all which can be seen with a small telescope and camera. If you like what you see, take a few minutes some night to turn off the lights and look up... More > into the night.< Less

This is absolutely the coolest thing I have bought for my Observatory. Each image is an inspiration and a reminder of how fantastic our universe is. Rich has done a wonderful job at making sure each image is a true representation of our celestial wonders. Hopefully this is the first of many calendars to come from this fine photographer. Each month is thoughtfully laid out with plenty of room to write in appointments from day to day while at the same time representing some of the most popular and well known Nebula and Galaxies. My hat goes off to Rich. I can only hope to be able to take such wonderful photographs someday.
