An easy read, well written, with a very personal look at WWII. It gives the reader a feeling of what it must be like for thousands of men involved in a war. I highly recommend it to anyone and especially for all teenagers. We need to teach history, a very important but unfortunately a forgotten subject. The men who faught and died for our country need more support and recognition, this book gives many good reasons why we should all feel this way.

"The First Few Hours And The First Few Days" This brook is an experience, not a narrative. WW11 has been dramatized, paradied and politicized to extremes, but no other book or motion picture has captured the harsh reality of the WWll footsoldier experience the way this book does. It makes you feel what it was really like -- the emotions, the images, the doubts, the confusion and the gutwrenching fear. This is a must-read for anyone who has the courage to want to truly understand WWII or any other "modern" war. It needs to be a movie, so a broader audience can appreciate it. Great book!

"The First Few Hours and The First Few Days" (5 Star) Rating - A vivid and unnerving account of WWII from a front-line fighting member of the U.S. Army’s celebrated 90th Infantry Division. The author is unashamedly honest in recounting the fear, desperation, insanity and unbearable loneliness endured by the foot soldiers who fought that war from the rims of foxholes. - He and his fellow ‘citizen soldiers’, who when asked by their country to perform a duty, responded with courage in the face of death, with honor in the face of hopelessness. A must read for all who, and perhaps more importantly for all who do not, appreciate the accomplishments and sacrifices made by those too few remaining brave souls from Americas greatest generation. - - Arthur Philips, San Diego, CA
