This review is by Syd Collins of Townsville e-mail Gullible Travellers By Richard Wheway This excellent story is the author’s first book, which he describes as an ‘airport read’ but I thought was much more. I found this book difficult to put down. I was charmed by his lovely sentence construction, and his concise, clear writing from the very first paragraph to the end. It examines the unforeseen consequences of a young man unknowingly importing a consignment of heroin into England from Thailand, in a present from his friend and travelling companion in Thailand, back to his friend’s mother. The plot has many intriguing developments and resolutions, all of which held my interest to the very last page. The author’s characters are skilfully portrayed and his sharp eye for social observation is used effectively throughout the story. I would recommend this book as a good read to any discerning reader. This is an enjoyable holiday read. Its witty title sums up the plot in a nutshell, and it deserves to grace the airport bookstands across the world. The plot describes what might happen if a so-called ‘friend’ secretly puts a stash of heroin in your international flight bags to take home for him. It explores what the gang intending to collect this stuff might do on discovering it had been lost on arrival! The question is, how to subvert them and how to survive? Incidentally, I thought this book would also make a good TV drama.
