When it comes to crime, the murder of a child is one of the worst. Just knowing about it can be traumatic. That's what one woman discovers when she picks up a book of crime scene photographs culled from the files of a real New York City detective. She's haunted by the harsh black and white photo of a little girl, strangled and left for dead on the floor in a womens' restroom. The story is intercut with her distress at not being able to stop thinking and wondering about the crime, while the other part takes the reader back to a hot day in the early 1960s and shows just what could drive a mother to murder her only child. A taut story with a shocking ending.

"Real Terror, Misunderstood Ending" I enjoyed the terror that Rick was conveying, yet it was missing something.I was following the tale with natural ease, feeling the descriptive points of the scenes, movements, and emotions. Understanding the woman's state of being, I was predicting the ending which ended-up being as I had expected. But, it was the last paragraph that threw me off. The transition for it was not smooth and appeared to be missing an incredible amount. For the sake of not spoiling it for others, I cannot state what this "gap" should be filled with. All in all, this is a must-read for psychological horror/thriller enthusiasts. The terror is real and not some BOO! tactic of monsters under the bed. And if you understand the last paragraph, please state your opinion.

"Something we all can relate to" When I was reading the story I was amazed at how much Rick brings out the natural curiosity in all of us. I instantly thought of times when I have seen unthinkable things and covered my eyes only to peek through my fingers.

"Crime Scene not easily forgotten!" From the moment Rick Reed, author of Crime Scene, stated, "the blood was real, the suicide victims with their heads blown off real; the burned bodies real, the execution real..." I knew that I would be reading a short story that I would have difficulty putting down! Rick R. Reed's fast paced, hard hitting, realistic style encompasses the fiction of Chicago where on a hot sultry day, a desperate mother struggles against the psychological demons in her past. This tormented tale is well written and the transitions smooth as Reed weaves back and forth between narration and the past. Anyone who enjoys reading a good psychological thriller will enjoy reading Crime Scene. Trish St. John
