FROM AMAZON USER BLUESTOCKING: ***** (5 stars) Enjoyable two night read: If you are looking for a light and enjoyable read, this is a great novella to accompany a cup of tea and a warm blanket. Set in rural America, this story combines an intriguing mystery with quirky characters. The characters are endearing and Belford is successful in carrying the reading through their personal development over the dozen chapters of the story. By the end of the book, the characters have undergone a metamorphosis and seem to have become whole. This type of character development is difficult in a short novel, but Belford carries it off effortlessly. The theme of eggs seems strange at first, yet by the end of the story, the reader may find themselves heating up the frying pan for a pre-bedtime snack. I gave this 5 stars because as I turned the last page in my e-reader, I felt a definite sadness that the story was over. I'm looking forward to more from this author!" FROM ITUNES USER MIKE PICTOR:... More > ***** (5 stars) A simple story, but engagingly told." FROM GOODREADS USER DIANE P: **** (4 stars) "This is a delightful and deeply moving short novella. It is the story of Shelley, an innocent, but very wise young girl who has been left to her own devices after the death of her parents when she was only 6 years old. She is living on the family farm under the care of her "bad ass" brother who she adores and clearly loves her very much. However, it is quite apparent to everyone (except Shelley perhaps) that he is totally incapable of looking after her. "Rooster" cannot hold down a job and comes and goes as he pleases while Shelley is left to fend for herself. When Rooster doesn't show up for several weeks, Shelley receives a cryptic letter and she sets out (toting his gun in her knapsack) to find her brother with the assistance of a socially-awkward autistic young man who she "kidnaps" along the way. Belford's characters are engaging and believable. This story doesn't pull any punches. It is compelling and ultimately extremely moving." FROM CHAPTERS/INDIGO USER JOCE: ***** (5 stars) "This is a delightful and deeply moving short novella. It more than exceeded my expectations. I was totally engrossed in it. It had been a while since a book so deeply entranced me. All I can say is 'Wonderful'"< Less
