A powerful incantatory work of pure utterance. An Ode of sorts, or manifesto even, to poetry and the powerless invisible strength of language and it's saving grace, underground or above, unknown or recognized...The cryptic voice of the "Minister/of the Great/Expanse of/Nothing-/(Ness)--the poet, declaiming from the Land of Truth (his truth) & Light & Love. "Dark Lands" a misnomer here. An uncanny transformation occurs in the work: a "transvaluation of values" to quote Nietzsche (Fred not Ray). The quotidian becomes the "inhuman", dark land of "Fame & Money/Politics & Wealth" while the hidden, mysterious, and gnomic becomes the "human," where poetry and spirit reside, as well as Self "containing ghost/of necrophysical/ Dreaming." Self, alone in a "great abyss" and seeking transcendence perhaps--"striv(ing) for one/more evening"--but maybe only needing another drink or cigarette, while... R.M. Engelhardt is one of those poets that captivates with his fluidity. Taking you on a journey to the depths and heights of the human soul. Speaking in a language that is timeless , that could translate into any tongue , leaving it’s audience captivated and in awe . His newest collection is filled with a raw beauty Rarely seen in poets today. Having done so much in his lifetime for other poets in the capital region of New York Again he does not fail with this breathtaking example of true craftsmanship. This book a fine example of the poetic mastery that has him still on the top of his game, decades after he first began putting pen to paper. Anyone who has ever heard one of his performances can feel his presence when reading these words. A true masterpiece for this new millennium. Thank you R.M. Christopher Ethan Burton

R.M. Englehardt is one of the finest poets currently drawing breath and this book is one hell of a ride. I’ve lost track of whether or not there is any such thing as “truth” left in the world, but these poems convey another quality almost as rare: genuine honesty about things that matter. Dark, rich, nuanced, emotionally risky, and crafted by an artist of the first rank, Darklands is a collection to keep you reading and rereading, and thinking long after. Highly recommended. — Jeff Weddle

As always, R.M. provides us with powerful and succinct snapshots of our world. He has taken the path of the "Shaman", assimilating the cultural'raw material' and through his unigue lens trans-substantiated, the dross into lessons and observations that we are now, all the better, for hearing. Cheers to to the 'Gentleman Outsider' for his cultural engineering! -Hex'm J'ai
