Apr 27, 2011Very informative...scary, sad. Admire your courage and endurance. Keep the movement running...you have my support.
Apr 25, 2011Overall, the book evoked feelings of intense anger in me. These feelings were directed towards her step-father, but also towards mother who failed to help RMarie and allowed her husband to continue abusing her. The author does not tell us what happened to her parents. I would have been interested in knowing their punishment. Furthermore, I do not doubt that this story is true, yet I find it hard to understand why it took so long for RMarie to escape. why she never ran away sooner. I admire the author for having the courage to retell this harrowing story of her childhood, as it must have been incredibly painful. I also admire her for using her experiences to benefit other victims, showing that child sex abuse is a reality, and that more help must be given to help those who are affected. RMarie's story is remarkable in the sense that she survived, and managed to put the past behind her, living the rest of her life to the full. I found it one of the most powerful books I ever read, and... More > suggest that you read it.< Less
Apr 22, 2011This book contains information unavailable elsewhere: the inner workings of an organized pedophile ring. Other books by former sex abuse victims, available on Amazon, describe amateur family operations. There are significant differences between the two. Rings often kill children (and adults) who threaten to expose them, cater to sexual sadists and are more formulaic in brainwashing. Rings have a feature that is seldom discussed in connection with sex abuse because it is not a factor in family operations -- blackmail. Imagine having a photograph or video of a politician, judge, doctor, lawyer or executive raping a child. You would have a very potent weapon to demand favors, because you could ruin him for life. Rings routinely gather photographic evidence at their meetings, to protect themselves in case of accidental exposure. They don't intend to use it for blackmail, but if it fell into the wrong hands, it could change the fate of elections, legislative bills, criminal prosecutions,... More > etc. The author was a sex slave in an organization that had fifty such slaves. She watched many of them killed and was subject to all sorts of sadistic torture. The ring leader was her step-father. Her mother deliberately bred her to be a victim, knew it was going on and looked the other way. In addition, the mother physically and psychologically abused the girl due to insecurities and anger problems of her own. The author estimates there are 80,000 American girls aged 5-12 in the same situation today. Pedophiles get away with it by brainwashing kids to be silent. If victims won't tell, there is no way for abusers to get caught. Why don't victims talk when they are free, say over 18? Many don't live that long; survivors are so traumatized -- they all have post-traumatic stress syndrome -- and residually brainwashed that they remain silent for decades. Many survivors succumb to drugs or suicide, others wind up in prostitution or porn. The brainwashing does more psychological damage than the rapes. This is happening in middle-class America, not ghettos. Pedophiles look like people you know and work with, not like the ones you see on TV. Only five percent are caught in their lifetime, which shows the false security in sex offender databases. The ones who get caught are the stupid ones. Pedophiles convince victims no one will believe them if they tell, or they will be abused worse in foster care. As a last resort, they kill victims who run and are returned home. The solution is to prove them wrong by providing community-based runaway shelters, and letting kids know they exist.< Less
