Are you ready to be swept up by a hurricane-paced plot? Want to breeze in on the behind-the-scenes world of crime in a so-called bedroom community? Does intrigue take your breath away? Then you must read Ro Ruffalo’s book Truly Disturbed, The Upland Murders. The exploits of Jasmine Kincaid will keep you riveted as she carries out her police duties on and off the clock. You’ll wonder whodunit. And you won’t know until the very end. Get ready to be blown away!
Ro Ruffalo’s Truly Disturbed is a good read. It’s a mystery set in the real town of Upland, California, whose motto is “The City of Gracious Living.” But that isn’t the case for several citizens who encounter a mysterious killer, the Shadow Man. We get glimpses into his dark soul in mini-chapters interspersed with the story of the unfolding investigation. Warning: grisly details make this novel unsuitable for the faint-of-heart! Lots of action and snappy dialogue move the story along at a rapid clip. The book’s main character, Police Officer Jasmine Kincaid, is sharp, irreverent and fearless. She’s also fiercely ambitious, and that ambition sometimes clashes with by-the-book police work, landing her in various sticky predicaments. Jasmine is a character I’d like to spend more time with, so I look forward to the upcoming novels in this series. The novel is populated by other well-drawn characters—Jasmine’s partner, boyfriend, sister and mother, and her nemesis, Officer Frank Sawtelle.... More > Not to mention the Shadow Man’s victims—they spring to life on the page before they fall prey to his depravity. There are several characters who could turn out to be the Shadow Man, and Ruffalo’s deft plotting kept me guessing until the very end. Truly Disturbed is truly unpredictable.< Less
