This is a book I hated to put down and one that I will regret finishing. It is that good. Mr. Fielding writes in a smooth, easy-to-follow manner incorporating the various forms of media, from the Stoke Sentinel to Ryan Burge's twitter account, to tell the story of a unique and special season in the history of Port Vale Football Club. Even if you are not a fan of Port Vale, you will enjoy this book and the style of the writer. It will not falter in comparison with other sport-oriented books in your collection. This will rank right up there with the best you have in your library! Ike

A week by week war digest of the fight for survival in diary format without the bog and mire of the previous years history. The pantomime that was the saving of Port Vale in the longest season imaginable... he is behind you!! who is?? the new owner!! Oh no he isnt.. the will he, wont he.. can we, cant we.. did that really happen memories of a stunned into believing fan base encapsulated buy the owner of a "No ordinary website" A good read with a glass of wine and a good cigar.. a very good read even without the wine or cigar

This book is an invaluable resource for the goings-on at Port Vale FC during the 2012-13 season culminating in the first promotion season since 1993-94. It is pitched at the right level for a record of all the games played with pre and post match quotes from the leading characters. The only complaints about the book are the poorish quality of the paper, I wish the stats included the names of both teams (not just the Vale team) and that the points and goal differences shown at the end of each month included the number of games played for each of the leading teams. Apart from these small issues, the content is just as required by the true Vale supporter. A great read Rob, well done and really good value at a tenner of which some goes to local charities.

Must say I’m very impressed with the overall content and the easy to read format. It’s factual without being wordy, and I particularly like the way Rob Fielding's book ‘breaths’ through the clever use of spacing, photographs, match reports and easy to follow narrative. As a Port Vale supporter I doubt I will ever forget season 2012/13 in a hurry. But just in case, I can always reach for my copy of ‘No ordinary season’ to relive it all again.

Rob F links together the story of an amazing football season using plenty of pictures and quotes from the main characters involved. The stats and facts from each game intersperse the narrative and give this book a contemporary and fresh feel. I was at a lot of these games; it's a pleasure to relive some of those moments through these pages. This is an essential purchase for any Vale fan - armchair or hardcore home and away fanatic. To be fair, it's a great read for anyone interested in football and the success of the underdog through adversity.
