This exhibition presents new paintings by Robert Christie. As the show title suggests, colour and construction are intertwined and emphatically presented. Breaking away from a traditional approach to painting that focuses on a contained, internal relationship of figure to ground, Christie’s new paintings are more about a singular, self-defined and self-sufficient colour unit. His use of multi-layered, thick paint in combination with collaged canvas and wood, give many of the new pieces a physicality that projects colour beyond a two-dimensional plane.
