If you like swords-&-sorcery or D&D-type novels, you'll probably like this. It's well-imagined, inventive within its genre, logical and fast-moving. It's quite short, but sticks in the memory. Another reviewer has referred to Pratchett. I can see what's meant, but don't expect comedy. Expect death. This fantasy world is violent and ruthless, and its assassins are dangerous.

This is a well written book and as it is the author's first book I wish he would write a sequal. It neede to be proof-read and he may have realised this too late. I understand another edition has been published, in a larger print, which I would prefer for my friends. I was about to order 2 copies of the revised book when I saw the new price. That is overpriced for the number of pages added. It is still a paperback and I think it will affect the sales greatly which is disappointing for the author. He has talent and imagination and could be an asset to the world of Fantasy readers. Sales will increase with a price reduction I'm sure.

I haven't seen the second edition but I have read the first. It is a well written book especially for a first novel; there are no obvious problems with consistency of plot or characters. The first edition did indeed suffer from poor editing but that has hopefully been remedied. The nature of Lulu is, I think, that what is printed is exactly what you send, so my only other complaint, that the font used was rather small and the lines a tad close-packed, has obviously been remedied as well, unless, from somewhere, the book has acquired about 25% more words! I have to agree with other opinion that the price is too high for a paperback - I recently received via Amazon a new (large) hardback for less than this, although to be fair if bought in a bookshop that would be more like £16. nevertheless, paperbacks for more than about £5-6 are not going to sell, which would be a shame in this case. The book ends with obvious space for a sequel so I hope Mr Coombs is busy writing it!

This is the first book by Robert Coombs, and I hope it will prove to be the first of many. The storytelling is succinct and descriptive text is kept to a minimum. Many editorial errors of spelling have been ironed out in the 2nd edition, and it is to be hoped that the increase in the number of pages means that the print has been enlarged. Lovers of fantasy will discover that Coombs was influenced by that master of the genre Terry Pratchett, who himself admits having been influenced by other authors. Shadow Path is an entertaining story, and this reader was left wanting to know what happened next. The only negative thing I can think of is that the price of the paperback 2nd edition is nearly twice that of the 1st edition. In this reviewer's opinion this is severely overpriced. On the other hand, the book is now available for download, so the high cost of the paperback need not deter potential buyers.
