HARDCOVER, Revised First Edition. Same core content as the First Edition but with many minor corrections. Same book as the Revised Paperbound edition. The First Section presents our top 21 Collectible Ike Varieties (our DIVA's). The Second Section has the core of the Ike Group's research: highlights include a photo copy of Herb Hick's amazing 1974 article on the three 71-72 reverses known at that time; a photo copy of Del Romine's only published article on Die States; a pithy essay by Sam Petry whom many of you will recognize from the PCGS US Coin Forum; a sharp essay by Andy on minting metallurgy; photo copies of two sets of amazing US Mint Ike hub and die records unearthed by Roger Burdette; and several chapters that gently explore some interesting technical issues. A big book (8X11, 509 pages), a valuable resource for modern coin collectors and essential for Ike collectors interested in the why's and how's of the turbulent first few years of the Series.

For far too long, the Eisenhower Series has been neglected. The IKE GROUP has done a wonderful job investigating, researching, and taking the next step towards step by step breaking down the mystery of this short lived series and unraveling the unknown. Areas such as die clashes, peg legs, repunched mint marks, Friendly Eagle Varieties, and doubled dies are tackled head on even with conflicting viewpoints from various members. Short comings are acknowledged and imput from collector's themselves are welcomed and as such, the humility and simple love the Eisenhower dollar is a most welcomed sight to behold. Simply put, a ground breaking reference point for both the expert, the novice, and everyone in between. The IKE GROUP even had the insight to produce a small size edition that a collector can bring along to coin shows, read on a train going to work, or whenever time avails itself. Looking forward to more volumes in the future. Thanks again IKE GROUP.

The book is easy to read with many photos representing coins you should be looking for. I bought the book, read it and already cherried 3 varieties I didn't previously know about!! Report as inappropriate * * * * * Sep. 18, 2011 By calvin goddard Worth it's weight in GOLD, this incredibly informative and beautifully illustrated book will change any IKE enthusist into an instant expert. Kudos to Rob Ezerman, and the other members of the IKE GROUP for a 5-Star production. At times, I feel like I am reading a hybrid between a good Detective novel and a great History book, with a lot of good humor thrown in to keep thing light. Highly scientific at times,(which is a breath of fresh air in the coin world these days) and, supremely logical, this book will go down in History as one of the truly great... More > Numismatic creations, that creates a new Paradigm of thought-structure, and, I'm sure proceeding Volumes will be as much of a joy to read, and re-read, as this one has been. Highest Recommendations!!! Report as inappropriate * * * * * Aug. 11, 2011 By layork2 An invaluable must have for anyone who wants to collect Ikes. Very easy reading and book tells you what to look for as far as varieties and then shows you. Can't get much simpler then that. Wish I had bought this sooner. Helped me cherry 1 die clash and still looking for more!!! Just a phenominal job!! Thanks to the Ike Group Founders or the Super 7 for their tireless and dedicated efforts on the book!!!!! "The advanced collector of Eisenhower Dollars will find a treasure trove of information within. This exhaustive work not only focuses on variety types, it offers insights into the 'how' and 'why' behind the coins. Most importantly, it is essential for an understanding of the future direction of this field." Reviewer Jeffrey P. LaPlante, The E-Sylum v14#46 November 6, 2011 “If you are really into error collecting and die varieties then you will want to get your hands on Collectible Ike Varieties Facts-Photos-Theories. . . If you want to find out more information on metallurgy, tool and die making, and the whole minting process you will find a wealth of information in the Big book.” “Chapter 25 is especially helpful for theories concerning annealing, planchet metallurgy, die hardening, and steel alloy composition. This is by far the most in depth discussion I have ever read on the subject” without attending formal training.” “The amount of work that has gone into this volume over the years is simply amazing.” “In Chapter 32 there is a review of the incomparable Del Romines theory on determining die states. There are many other chapters which required the painstaking research of United States Mint records, with discussions of behind the scenes decisions, and work processes.”< Less
