It took just three weeks to turn our lives inside out, heading into unknown territory and unexperienced temperatures. And why drag our family 6000 miles to Africa? Well, it was warm, hardly ever rained and the only other choice was Galway. Botswana From The Outside In charts the shock transition of a young family from cosy Ireland to Botswana, working through challenges as they came. Oh, and dealing with it's administration system, a few crawly things, a couple of rather large things and an annoying baboon for a neighbour.

I was interested to read this book because I worked in Botswana for a short period. The situations and relationships presented were not only reminiscent of the oddities and indiosyncracies I noticed, but helped me make sense of, and understand the country and the people. The narrative style takes a very personal perspective and reflects on the differences between European and Tswana cultures, values, attitudes and traditions. And it's also a good yarn of the family's adventures told in a way that is thoroughly entertaining.

I very much enjoyed Robert's book about is family's experiences in Botswana. Robert's book is an easy read and very amusing, which seems only natural due to his Irish sense of humour. It is a little bit like a 'What to do, or rather NOT do, when you live in a foreign country'.

A classic fish out of water story told in a charming and typically witty Irish way.

I thought this was a fascinating book, which detailed the trials and tribulations of a family who moved from their comfort zone to another country to live and work. Initially starting out for a short term but ending up staying for years. After having been to another African country for a few weeks I can fully understand how they initially felt. It is easy to read and an real page-turner.

Great read. Rob has an easy style about his writing that takes you along with the family on their journey. He turned a whole pile of African adventures into an Irish yarn! Satirical and interesting, it flowed nicely and invoked excitement, happiness and a little sadness in someone who knows well the feeling of traveling with a young family.
