"Before Gillette" If you're a collector of safety razors or just have a fascination with these shaving implements, then you'll enjoy reading this book. Everyone is familiar with the Gillette safety razors, but how many of you have heard of the Scott, Torrey, Griffon, Fox, or other brands of razors that dominated the scene just prior to the Gillette safety razor. This book describes all of the intricate innovations that came and went and finally led to the double-edged razor blade and the Gillette razor. The inventors were there to build a better "mouse trap," and they succeeded. The book is profusely illustrated with black and white pictures. It is the only book that I know of that traces the development of the safety razor before Gillette.
"Before Gillette" Robert Waits has long been known in the Barberiana and Shaving community as an exhaustive researcher, and he has done it again with his latest book, Before Gillette. For those involved in the study of shaving, it is well known that King Gillette did not invent the safety razor, but rather the wafer thin blade safety razor. While this was a tremendous benefit to mankind, we must not forget the many inventors that preceded Gillette with their own contributions. If you have any interest at all in vintage shaving devices, you will be well pleased with this latest offering. Phillip Krumholz
