People of Good Will: Service, Development, and Education in the Work of Los Niños, 1974-2009

ByRobert Kolesar

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Los Niños is a private non-profit organization which has worked for 35 years in the Tijuana and Mexicali border regions of Mexico next to southern California. Over that time, its work has extended dramatically, starting with relief efforts aimed at helping children, to community development centered on nutrition and heath, to educational and financial programs building self-reliance. Los Niños has also helped thousands of students from the United States learn about the border region through extensive service learning programs, working with the Mexican communities served, rather than for them or on behalf of them. Los Niños has not only recognized the inherent contradictions and tensions involved in the combination of service, development, and education, it has confronted them in the design and management of its programs, providing a model for others interested in pursuing such work. All net proceeds from this book will help to continue the work of Los Niños and its successor organization, Via International.
