Ty Deets is a boy, hard-of-hearing, growing up in post-WWII Pineville, North Carolina. Life in Pineville is simple. In this Southern town, there's cotton and the cotton mill, working and church, and baseball. Ty is following the road to working-in-the-mill, like every other boy in Pineville, until two things change his path: a fire and playing ball.
