Vietnam was not all that it was built up to be. The killing maiming and pillaging that the protesters and press screamed about was nothing when compared to the itching, trudging, and sweating that really made up one's tour of Nam. For every day that I spent fighting, there were countless days of walking, mosquitoes, leeches, and ants. Nam's jungles were teeming with ways to break a man's spirit, from carnivorous termites to hidden surprise left by 'Charlie'. The following are but some of the every day occurrences that are seldom mentioned when Nam is discussed.
