Azzaro: A Trilogy - Part Two

ByRoger Pullen

February 1940. Britain faces catastrophe, vital aircraft from America are flown across a forbidding Atlantic, saving time into action. Women volunteers deliver aircraft alone – anything from fighter to bomber, from factories to desperate squadrons. It’s demanding, dangerous sometimes ends in tragedy. Above France a homing Spitfire is downed. Its pilot escapes, picked-up by the Resistance. Fighting boredom, hoping for repatriation. Radio instructions from England, following a new reconnaissance photos, order capture of a unique and secret German aircraft, developed from a 16th century design. The downed pilot is key; to fly the machine to England. Resistance leader Patricia hatches an audacious scheme, avoiding German attention despite a close and unwelcome call for the young woman. All involved accept that patience and raw courage are crucial ingredients for success. High-octane danger generates a concoction of emotions that eventually captures Azzaro’s cast of characters.
