I finished this in about an hour It was a very good account of his time in Viet Nam My brother is Richard Meighan which is the fellow that is mentioned in this book and he has dedicated the book to him He brought back to life many memories of letters from my brother I was sitting here crying by the time I finished it. I felt I was back in time. I cannot explain to anyone how much I miss him but it was good to hear how much he meant to others around him at the time of his death. Roger thank-you for sharing your feelings. I could see where there were times in your writing where it was hard to describe some of your memories I could also feel your anger in areas of the book and I understand that I hope that in doing this book it has helped you and others I know it meant a lot to me This is Sue Howard's son Dan. I read the book. Very well done. I have heard stories about my uncle Richard over the years, kind of remember him. He was a helluva guy and sounds like he was well liked over in... More > Vietnam too. Thanks for letting us see it thru your eyes. Very tough what you went thru over there and when you got home. It was an honor that you dedicated book to my uncle. Thanks again.< Less

I learned more about my brother-in-law's experiences related to Viet Nam in the hour it took me to read his memoir, than in the numerous face-to-face discussions I've had with him over the years. Roger was able to articulate his feelings in the book in ways that came alive for me and took me back to those turbulent times. I have so much respect for Roger and his fellow servicemen and -women now that I've heard about the mendacities, ironies, and follies that plagued the Viet Nam era. I especially enjoyed the email transcripts between Roger and the sister of his buddy who was killed by a rocket strike right next to Roger. The poignant exchange reveals much that remains hidden beneath the "suck it up and be a man" persona he felt he had to maintain during the 60's and 70's.
