Well, having read this book, I can tell you my father is actually a remarkable man! Firstly allow me to explain: Ron, my father, had me when he was 59 years old, the year is now 2017, and this book was published when i was 18. It's now the 10 year anniversary of this book! Reading this book for the first time was a kind of catalyst for a deeper appreciation of my dad. I remember feeling a little overwhelmed when I first read the book, about how much he actually experienced in life and the kind of things he has been through. After the first time reading it I found a deep sense of proudness and appreciation. So what's it all about? The Life and Times of Ron Lucas begins with stories of my dad in his early days living in England. One morning, he was working as a newspaper delivery boy on his bicycle, dropping the paper to each house in the neighborhood - when suddenly - a barrage of V2 rockets launched by Nazi Germany explode all around him. They literally obliterate every house he had... More > just finished delivering mail too, I will never forget the first time I read this chapter where he explains the sound the bombs made and the silence that followed just before they exploded Like myself, Ron Lucas also got into trouble at school! Once he was made to crawl on his hands and knees around the entire school while they were sitting during an assembly, whilst simultaneously being beaten with the cane by no less than the headmaster himself! He was unlucky enough to get caught red-handed inside the headmasters office, underneath his desk, trying to sneakily insert his milk carton in between the only radiator at the school - of course, for the purposes of enjoying a warm milk during a freezing winters day! l watched my dad type this entire book using only his 2 "rude" or "middle" fingers from each hand. One can't expect him to type fast, after all - the only keyboard that existed in his day was the typewriter... He can still remember the disbelief when the CD-ROM was released, that it could carry the equivalent of many vinyl records in much less than half the size. If you want to get inspired or enjoy reading about trap shooting, deep sea diving, the war, model plane building or just want to read how my dad contributed to the safety of students and chemists handling dangerous chemicals in labs, then this is the book for you !! To anyone considering writing their own memoirs, if you believe anything enough you can achieve it !!!< Less
